Choreographer Gary Clarke & Homotopia - Liverpools annual celebration of queer arts and culture are joining forces to create a brand spanking new production called '9 to 5'.

A dark, surreal and twisted dance floor extravaganza where the dirty glitz of Studio 54 meets The Stepford Wives.

Gary Clarke requires 3 strong, versatile and charismatic male dancers / performers to take part in an intensive Research and Development Project resulting in a performance at The Unity Theatre as part of Homotopia and LEAP Festival 2010

The project will run at Merseyside Dance Initiative (MDI) in Liverpool from Monday 25th October to Saturday 30th October 2010 and Wednesday 10th No vember Performance - Thursday 11th November. The total fee for the work is £350

Dancers from Liverpool and the North West are encouraged to apply.

ACE dance and music are offering professional dancers the opportunity to participate in an intensive residency with internationally acclaimed South African choreographer Vincent Mantsoe. This rare professional development opportunity will take place at the ACE dance and music studio, the Link Dance Space, Birmingham, from 27th September to 1st October.

Multi-award winning Vincent Mantsoe previously collaborated with ACE dance and music on their celebrated production 'Skin', which toured successfully both in the U.K. and abroad from 2007 to 2008. ACE dance and music are looking to build on this creative relationship and use this residency as a research and development period for their next production 'Ten Strong'.

Vincent Mantsoe trained at Johannesburg's Moving Into Dance Company. His work draws on traditional African dance forms with a contemporary approach from modern, ballet and Asian forms such as Tai Chi, Martial Art and traditional Balinese dance. This residency will give participants the opportunity to experience his distinct style of dance, which he describes as Afro-fusion.

Kate Jackson is looking for a maximum of 20 Dance Artists to take part in a collaborative and creative week, generating material towards Site -Specific performance HOUSE HOLD.

HOUSE HOLD is based upon our living environments and how we are influenced through TV, Film and social demands. From the resonant body language of Bruce Forsyth, or TV Jingles or Pop icons such as James Brown who determine a movement style which decades of people recognise through movement and body language.

Kate is seeking dance artists who have trained in Contemporary Dance or who are completing full time training, who are attracted to improvising and using theatrical influences to create material and generate movement vocabulary.

The project will take place at The Pyramid Arts Centre in Warrington and will run between Monday 23rd and Saturday 28th August 2010 with a performance Saturday 28th August 2010.

Participants will have the rare opportunity to take part in a professional level daily class as well as work alongside an established dancer artist in the creation of an exciting an innovative new dance work.

A graduate from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Kate Jackson has built a career as a performer and dance maker, working with some of the UK's leading contemporary dance companies and choreographers including Liv Lorent's balletLORENT, Tom Dale Company, Fuel Theatre / Sadler's Wells Productions, Lea Anderson and Maresa Von Stockert.

Some priority for this project will be given to dance artists based in the North West, however people outside the region are encouraged to apply.

IJAD Dance Company is looking to expand it's pool of performers for future projects and will be holding workshops / audition days for male and female dancers on on Tuesday 22 June 2010 and a recall on the 24 of June. Dancers must be available for all three dates.

These workshops will offer the participants the opportunity to gain an understanding of the company's work, and IJAD will select performers that are best suited for their projects.

This years projects will take place in Cambridge and London (Barnet and Haringey). They will take place in theatres and other public spaces.

About IJAD

The movement vocabulary is an amalgamation of Physical Theatre, Contemporary, Neo Classical, Arabic, Hip-Hop and Parkour. IJAD make lively projects, with a collaborative nature involving artists from other disciplines, especially film and interactive artists.

IJAD also make community projects working with older people, youth and refugees.

The work is aimed at a mixed audience, showing at mid scale theatres and also in more unusual places like a disused wine factory. Past venues include ICA, Colchester Arts Centre, the V&A and Artdubai09.

The work involves innovative, dynamic concepts within dance and redefines the relationship between dance techniques, performance space, visuals and technology to challenge audiences' expectations. IJAD is directed by independent choreographer Joumana Mourad

Background information

Short Back and Sides is a contemporary dance theatre company co-directed by acclaimed performer/choreographer TC Howard and composer/sound-designer Matthew Bugg. Working with Danceworks UK, Nottingham Playhouse, Sheffield Theatres and the Jerwood Studio at Sadlers Wells* Short Back and Sides are creating, Paper Mountain a middle scale piece for family audiences with a cast of 8 performers.

Paper Mountain will tell the story of a young boy as he deals with the loss of his mother. Original music, exquisite and dynamic choreography, puppets, theatrical trickery and an intricate set and lighting design will all come together to take us on a journey that is both heartbreaking and humorous, terrifying and tender.

This is a research phase and the resulting research will be shown on the 12th October 2010 at Sheffield Theatres for feedbac k from promoters, producers and children aged 7+ and their families. It is anticipated that there will be a full production period in Spring 2011, with a premiere in Summer 11 and touring in Autumn 2011/Spring 2012.

There will also be intensive rehearsals for a performance at The Torch Theatre, Milford Haven, at the end of the month. Highly subsidised, though basic, accommodation is provided and so is transport. Fee: £1,500.

Essential: 3 years vocational dance training (preferably in contemporary dance), dynamic mover, confident teacher, lots of energy.

Leeds based dance company Ascendance Rep, is looking for 6 dancers between the ages of 18 years and 100 years! to take part in an exciting new dance research project, directed by Artistic Director Rachel Wesson. The 'Company of All Ages' will devise a new dance piece, over a 3 week period in the grounds of Skipton Castle, Yorkshire in Summer 2010. The piece will then be performed at the end of the residency.

Dancers must have a professional training, with an understanding of choreography and performance. We are particularly interested in those people who may not dance professionally any more due to personal circumstances and/or family commitments.

Dancers should ideally be based in the region and should also be available for touring for 3 months (weekends) in Summer 2011 for a UK tour of 10 Castles.
Teaching experience is desirable although not essential to undertake outreach work during the tour period.

The dance piece will be devised during a residency at Skipton Castle in 2010 from 4th - 24th August culminating in two performances on the Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd August. (This will be followed by filming and evaluation.)

Cscape Dance Company is looking to expand it's pool of performers for current and future projects and will be holding a workshop / audition day for male and female dancers on Saturday 1st May at Truro College, Truro, Cornwall from 10 am - 6 pm.

The workshop will be an opportunity for performers to gain an understanding of Cscape's work and a chance for Cscape to identify performers with whom they can potentially work with on up and coming site specific and touring productions from 2010-2012.

Cscape will be specifically looking to recruit 5 dancers for a large-scale site specific performance project in June / July at Trebah Gardens near Falmouth, Cornwall (info below).

Cscape Dance Company is a producing dance theatre company based in Cornwall that creates and performs work, which is highly collaborative and playful in nature. The highly theatrical style of work is often character based, containing strong narratives which audiences can identify with.

Performers should have a three-year dance or physical theatre training under their belt and at least 2 years of professional performance experience. Cscape are particularly interested in performers who are theatrical and are interested and experienced in working with character. Cscape often work with text therefore some voice experience, or the willingness to give it a go, is essential. If you have experience in teaching and education work and would be interested in delivering education projects with the company please let us know in your application.

The Global Garden project

This is a unique performance opportunity to work with Cscape Directors, a team of 8 dancers, and a creative team including writer Anna Maria Murphy, visual artists and musicians to create an outdoor dance theatre event at the stunning site of Trebah Gardens, which is a wild sub-tropical ravine that magically stretches down a valley to the waters edge of the Helford Estuary, near Falmouth.

Contract Dates: 9th June - 12th July 16 days of rehearsal and a performance week (6 shows)

Rate of pay - between £1375 and £1600 and dependent on experience


Performers must be willing to work outdoors come rain or shine. Sense of humour, a good pair of wellies and a car are all essential!
