It's all a matter of personal choice. The training at the SSCD is very good but with more creative work, the training at Northern is excellent, with heavy emphasis on technique class. It really depends on what type of career you are looking for.

When training the teachers are invaluable but a lot of it os down to what you put it to that training and what additional work/classes you do.

If you want to thrive then you can do that at any school and SSCD will provide a great environment, less stressful than Leeds and cheaper. Schools (which one you choose at least) are largely irrelevant to obtaining the type of work you want. They don't look at the school you trained on your CV and decide to give you a job or not, if you are good enough you will get work.

i have been offered a place to do a three year course at SSCD to get a degree
but i have also been offered to do a one year foundation at NSCD,

i have been told that Northerns foundation could mean i could then persue degree there or at LSCD or Laban etc which could lead to finding joining companies in the future easier, however i would not be guarenteed a place on a degree course.
However i have already been offered degree at SSCD would this degree be veiwed as highly in the future and how much of a difference will it make?

If the teacher is indeed making an arbitrary decision to allow or not allow students to audition then, on the face of it, that would be unethical and over stepping the bounds of their authority. Students are graduating out of their final year so they can do as they please. It would, as you say, be up to the company or individual running the audition to determine the suitably of the dancer for the post. Highly skilled professionals are routinely turned down for jobs for various reasons but they audition any way, it is the nature of the beast, so to speak.

Since graduating from the London School of Contemporary Dance is not exactly a cake walk then you would expect the dancers to be of a very high standard to begin with.

Without more specific information about what exactly is occurring it's hard for us to ask the right questions. If you have more details then please let us know. If you wish to contact us directly then you can do so through our contact page.

Hello
I am a 2nd year at LCDS. At the moment the 3rd years are auditioning for post grad courses-mainly in the form of apprenticeships with companies. However-a number have been told, by the head of post graduate studies after their first audition, that they would not be allowed to take part in any further apprenticeship auditions. I was just wondering how this can be justified? Surely it is not fair for the head of the course to deny people the opportunity to audition, after all the head of post-grad studies is not picking the dancers. Legally are there not issues as the are applying for a course and not a job?

WHAT IS STAMPING GROUND?
Stamping Ground (SG08) is Dance4¹s annual participatory festival of dance and performance aimed at giving families and young people the opportunity to engage with contemporary dance and live performance. The events take place throughout the East Midlands in July, August and September 2008, travelling to existing local festivals and events to engage and celebrate the diversity
of the region's local communities. Engaging with schools and local community is an essential part of SG08 and we offer an outreach programme running in parallel to SG08.

NEW DIRECTION FOR SG08.
* Company/Artists to be available from July until September 08
* Company/Artists to be committed to perform in up to 12 festivals depending on the festival organisers selection from the menu.
* Company/Artists to be have strong experience and available to deliver outreach workshops from March until August 08 (fees additional)
* Company/Artists should be based or have a desire to work within the East Midlands
* Company/Artists prepared to perform to a range of audiences up to over 200 people
* Company/Artists to have experience of delivering outreach.
* Member(s) of the Company/Artists should be CRB checked.

WHAT DANCE4 OFFERS.

Performance Fee: Each Company/ Artists will be paid £400 per festival plus contribution towards expenses Mentoring & support: Dance4 will work closely with the Companies/Artists selected to offer support regarding creative and performance feedback and to support the group with any issues occurred.
