Coming to Article19 for the first time with the rather oddly titled ‘Bagofti’ (the reason for the name is explained in the interview) is dance maker Gary Clarke.
Having performed with many dance companies across the UK and Europe as well as choreographing work for a diverse range of groups Mr Clarke comes to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the first time with dancer Gavin Coward with a brand new solo work.
This particular solo (the dance world’s most difficult of challenges) is inspired by the painter Francis Bacon.
They say this much about the work;
“Bagofti is a one man solo show that delves deep into the bold, austere and highly expressive art work of iconic figurative painter Francis Bacon. Part dance, part sculpture, Bagofti is a mesmerising display of sheer physicality in response to the personal life and and art works of one of the world’s greatest 20th century artists.”
Further touring plans are as yet unconfirmed but after a dozen or more shows at the Fringe they may well be looking to rest for a while. You can get updates through the company website though.
