The post graduate dance company of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance are back for with another mix of dancers and dance makers trying to build some sort of future in the current wreckage of the profession. Hey, we are nothing if not positive here in TheLab™.
For the 2013 season the company has amassed a great mix of dancers and some eclectic choreography folk for a mixed bill that really is “mixed”. From the subtle wackiness of Ben Wright’s ‘Shuffle’ to the hard core choreography of Frauke Requardt ‘Night time’ and James Wilton with ‘Resurgence’. Finally, there is a sublime piece of weirdness in the form of ‘Instructions to the Anima;’ from Angus Balbirnie.
Verve say this much;
“The company works with leading international choreographers to create a mixed-bill of works which are toured throughout the UK and Europe. Historically, performances from NSCD have had great acclaim from audiences and critics. The School has played host to many exceptional choreographers whilst simultaneously giving audiences the opportunity to witness the next generation of innovative dance artists.”
Post grad companies are not about the dance makers though they are about the dancers. Our features bring you a hefty dose of their performance work alongside an interview with two of the company’s dancers; Ashleigh Musk and Christian Brinklow.
Verve 2013 dancers are Charlotte Baker, Christian Brinklow, Danilo Caruso, Margherita Elliot, Roger Fernández Cifuentes, Baptiste Hilbert, Ashleigh Musk, Pernille Sórensen, Alex Standard, Natasha Wade, Dawn Webster and Crystal Zillwood.
